Newport News native, H. Duncan Garnett, Jr., is a trial lawyer with more than thirty years of success in the trial of personal injury and wrongful death claims.

He enjoys the highest Martindale-Hubbell rating for legal competence, has been selected by his peers for publication in “The Best Lawyers in America” and is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.

Mr. Garnett focuses his practice on the settlement and trial of cases involving serious injury and death caused by car, tractor-trailer and other vehicular collisions, by medical negligence, by defective products and by nursing home abuse. In addition, he has a special interest in pursuing mass torts such as pharmaceutical or drug litigation as well as cases involving fraud on the government which are often referred to as “whistle blower cases.”

Mr. Garnett is published in the Journal of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, is a chapter author of the lawyers’ textbook, How to Try an Automobile Negligence Case in Virginia, published by the West Group in 1997, is a past member of the Virginia Bar Association Committee which annually publishes A Guide to Virginia Evidence, a past member of the faculty for the Virginia State Bar Professionalism Course and is a frequent lecturer in Continuing Legal Education.

Mr. Garnett is the immediate President of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and a board member of the Virginia College Trial Advocacy. He is a Stalwart of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and a Patron of the Virginia Bar Association, a past representative to the Virginia State Bar Council representing the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Central Virginia and a past President of the Piedmont Bar Association.

Mr. Garnett was educated in the Newport News public schools, attended Christopher Newport University and received his undergraduate degree in American History and his law degree from the College of William and Mary where his accomplishments were recognized by selection for membership in Omicron Delta Kappa, a national fraternity which honors conspicuous attainment and leadership in collegiate activities.H. Mr. Garnett and his wife, Diana, reside in downtown Hampton and on their farm in Louisa County. They enjoy salt water sports, bird dogs and retrievers, and farming.
